Supplement Review: Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein

There are just way too many supplements today in the supplement industry. So many that sometimes it’s hard to pick out which supplements are “the best”. That’s why when it comes to buying supplements, I always stick to reputable companies that makes quality products. One of those reputable companies is Optimum Nutrition. The company has been around for quite a while now, and their 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein is one of the most popular supplements in the market that is a top-seller each and every year. It has won the Supplement of the Year and Protein Powder of the Year awards for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. That’s 6 years in a row! Anyway, here’s my brief review about it.

Taste and Mix-ability

When it comes to taste, it beats out all other protein powders out there. Compared to other protein powders, Optimum’s 100% Whey mixes very well with milk or water and it mixes pretty quickly. And by the time you drink it, you’d never even think that you were drinking a protein drink. Many protein powders have that chalky taste to them that most people can’t stand, but Optimum’s 100% Whey makes you think that you’re drinking a milkshake.

Ingredient Profile

Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey has an amazing ingredient profile. It’s packed with whey protein isolates that are 90% pure protein by weight. Whey protein isolates are the purest and most expensive form of whey protein that exists. Here are some other highlights of OPtimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey (per serving):

  • 24 grams of pure protein
  • More than 5 grams of BCAA’s
  • Fast-Acting HYDROWHEY Whey Peptides
  • Over 4 grams of Glutamine & Precursors
  • Instantized to Mix with a Spoon

Price

The powder comes in four different bag/tub sizes: 1 lb, 2 lbs, 5 lbs, and 10 lbs. I get the 5 lb tub because it’s the most convenient. The 5 pound tub retails for over $70, but I get it at BodyBuilding.com where it’s only $54. At 77 servings for the 5 pound tub, it will last you for AT LEAST 2 months depending on how many times you plan on taking it per week.

Overall Grade: 4.5/5

Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey Protein is in my opinion the best whey protein supplement out there. I’ve been taking it for over 2 years now and it’s worked wonders for me. I highly recommend this whey protein over other companies out there based on its quality. You can’t go wrong with Optimum Nutrition. If it was free I’d give it a 5 out of 5.

You kinda lost me there. But ya, I’d agree with you that Jack3d is a pretty good pre-workout (if that’s what you were trying to say).

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey is a great supplement, not only does it taste great but it has also given me some pretty good gains. It has got to be the best whey protein powder that I have tried yet.
