Every guy wants big arms. It’s what separates the men from the boys. Oh and let’s not forget that chicks dig them.
Getting big arms relies on a combination of many different factors in terms of your training and nutrition. Having proper training and nutrtion is key to building your arms, and this applies to any other muscle in your body too.
But what many people fail to realize though is that the triceps are actually the bigger muscle group in the arms. It makes up about 65% of its mass. Many people work on their biceps more than their triceps for the same reason that they work on their chest more than their back: they’re visible from the front. If you want to build big arms though you’ll have to stop complaining and start building your triceps.
How To Build Bigger Triceps
You’ll never get big arms unless you increase your overall muscle mass. No matter how many bicep or tricep exercises you do, your arms will never grow. Here are some quick tips on how to build bigger triceps.
- Eat big. Bulk up by eating over your maintenance. You need to learn how to eat enough calories to get bigger.
- GOMAD. If you’re having trouble gaining weight, drink a gallon of milk a day (or close to it).
- Do compound exercises. Avoid isolation exercises such as tricep kickbacks or pushdowns. Doing compound exercises such as bench presses and dips will help you build your triceps faster than any isolation exercise.
- Prioritize the muscle. If you normally work out your triceps just once a week, try incorporating them in your workouts twice a week (at the beginning and end of the week).
- Watch your form. This applies to everything you do at the gym. In order to build muscle you need to have near-perfect form. You want to demolish your muscles, not your joints.
There’s no if’s, and’s or but’s about this guys. If you want to build bigger arms, you’ll need to build bigger triceps. End of story.
Important point you make about the triceps being the key to bigger arms. Also unless you walk around with your biceps constantly flexed (which I hope you don’t!) it’s the triceps that really make your arms look good in a T-shirt.
Personally I think isolation exercises for the triceps are underrated. Aside from push-up variations they are pretty much all I do.

Compound exercises work great too though. Dips are my favorite and they really work out your triceps depending on your form and posture.
