So what do popcorn, almonds, and cookies have in common?
They’re all domino foods.
To put it simply, these are finger-foods that are prone to portion abuse. They’re referred to as domino foods because once you start eating them, it’s almost impossible to stop.
The types of domino foods can be both healthy and unhealthy. From processed chips and cookies to raw almonds and peanuts, they are meant to be snacked on at any time of the day.
Don’t be fooled though just because some of these foods are healthy. A cup of whole almonds, for example, contains over 750 calories. Imagine watching your favorite TV show while snacking on some almonds. Next thing you know, you’ve eaten two cups worth which add up to 1,600 calories. That’s more calories than TWO McDonald’s Big Macs!
Almonds are a great food source that’s high in protein and healthy fats, don’t get me wrong.
But remember, eating healthy doesn’t mean you will lose weight.
Consuming too much calorie-dense foods is one of the biggest reasons why people go over their calorie intake. Don’t try and fool yourself that you can eat just a handful of almonds or just one piece of cookie. If you know that you’re the type of person that tend to eat uncontrollably, you have to be able to watch your portions.
It’s not easy, but taking small steps can make a big difference. If you’re having peanuts for example, put a serving or two in a small bowl instead of eating straight from the bag. You can apply the same thing to popcorn. Want a piece of cookie? Grab one from the jar and walk away instead of leaving the jar in front of you and in your reach.
By limiting your consumption of domino foods, you can without a doubt lower your calorie intake.
