About 10 years ago, Liina — a mother of 3 kids — realized she didn’t like what she was seeing on the scale.
Actually, she didn’t like what she wasn’t seeing whenever she stepped on the scale: her toes.
Fast forward to today and Liina has completely turned her life around by lifting weights, simplifying her fitness lifestyle, and overcoming her bad habit of emotional binge eating .
Today, I’d like to share with you her story.
But before I do, two things to note here:
1. I figured that instead of talking about what she did to get to where she is now, I’d have her do the talking so you can see things from her perspective. What you’re about to read below is basically a short interview I did with Liina.
2. The results you see below didn’t happen overnight. This was many months in the making. I’m not the type of coach that promise quick & easy results, so I just want to throw that quick disclaimer out there.
What was life was like before you joined the VBF Coaching program? What made you decide to jump on board?
Like so many people, I have always struggled with a healthy balance between food and exercise, in terms of eating what I love, but not overdoing it.
What made me tip happened actually ~10 years ago.
I remember going to the bathroom, standing on the scale and… not seeing my toes.
I was horrified.
I did a lot of work in the following years, but what really changed my mind about getting help, was the feeling of support. Knowing that I put myself in the hands of someone who understands, guides me, and won’t yell at me (well, not too much! haha).
I didn’t want to do this alone anymore.
What action steps did you take to transform your body?
Step one for me was portion control for food.
Eating to the point of almost being satiated, and stopping there. By far the hardest thing to do.
Step two – I started tracking what I eat.
I really needed to SEE what I put in my body, and why… and to reflect on how it makes me feel. These days I do not track that much anymore as I’ve gotten used to my routines, but for beginners, I would say it’s a must.
And step three – I set myself goals that I could keep.
When I caught myself thinking “But I could probably keep this up X times a week,” I knew it wasn’t going to happen. Last but not least, persistence and discipline are key. Motivation gets you as far as off your butt, the rest is hard work.
Outside of your physical transformation, what other areas of your life has transformed?
I’m finally happy with who I am. I have a lot more self-confidence.
What do you like most about online training compared to other things you’ve tried in the past?
You can look at it on the go, you can talk to your coach on the train, on the bus, on the holidays. And you can take your time to explain things. It’s very personal – these days there’s the help of so many social media channels where you have the privilege of working with people who are on the other side of the world – it’s great!
Lastly, any word of advice for other hard-working moms out there?
Don’t give up, it’s NEVER too late.
And involve your children – be an example to them and introduce them early to a healthy and active lifestyle.
No one will ever regret a good workout!
